First of all, I would like to thank Almighty Allah for saving me from the hellhole of Dhoonidhoo. I would also like to thank all those people from around the world who have campaigned effortlessly to secure my freedom. I may not be able to thank each and every one of you individually, but on behalf of my family and I, please accept our heartfelt gratitude. I am deeply humbled by your kindness and consideration.
Of course, this is not over yet. I face the risk of being sent back to Dhoonidhoo any minute, on the whim and fancy of this regime. I also face a court case, or possibly more than one, based on trumped up charges.
Let me assure all of you that despite my ordeal, I will not give up my work to bring democratic reform to the Maldives peacefully. What is even more paramount today is to secure the release of my fellow reformists still detained in Dhoonidhoo.
I firmly believe in the noble principle of working to achieve your rights and freedoms through non-violent means as epitomised by the great Mahatma Gandhi. Irrespective of whatever threats that I may have to face, I will not stop my work until democracy is firmly established in the Maldives, not just in name but in practice as well.
I thank all of you once again for your selfless dedication and humanitarian support. I hope I can count on support in securing the release of those still in custody. I would also like to thank the members of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) for looking after my family in their hour of need.
THANK YOU
Amin Faisal and family
